Cowboys confirm Romo has collapsed lung; Austin also hurt

Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys did a 180-degree turn in San Francisco on Sunday after their Week 1 meltdown in New York.

WebMD -- our favorite doctor -- defines a pneumothorax as a collapsed lung.

The Cowboys essentially confirmed QB Tony Romo has one Monday evening

A statement released by the team said:

Additional testing on the fractured rib of Tony Romo today revealed that he also has evidence of a pneumothorax—a condition that is not unusual for an injury such as the one Romo sustained in the game in San Francisco.

Varying degrees of a pneumothorax can heal in differing time frames.

The Cowboys medical team will continue to monitor the situation and conduct additional tests as the week progresses.

Romo was hurt in Sunday's 27-24 OT victory in San Francisco, largely because he returned from his injuries to spur Dallas to its successful come-from-behind effort. He threw for 345 yards and two TDs and set up the game-winning FG with a 77-yard completion in overtime.

He'll have one extra day to heal if he hopes to play next Monday night when the Cowboys host the Redskins. But Romo almost surely won't have WR Miles Austin, who could be out until Week 6 with a hamstring injury, per ESPN.
